Founding (2022)

Angi and Travis Noote founded Boomerang Comedy Theater in Baton Rouge, Louisiana in 2022, creating a home for improv comedy in the state capital. The theater was built around a structured educational model, with a four-level curriculum that takes students from beginner fundamentals through advanced long-form performance work.

Curriculum and Programming

Boomerang's four-level curriculum provides a clear developmental path for Baton Rouge improvisers, with each level building on the previous in a way that prepares students for house team performance. The theater also presents regular shows featuring its trained ensembles, establishing a pipeline from student to performer in the Baton Rouge community.

The Baton Rouge Improv Festival, a five-day event hosted in partnership with LSU's College of Music and Dramatic Arts Theater, featuring stand-up competitions, improv shows, and guest speakers (returned in-person April 2022 under artistic director Brett Duggan). Four-level training curriculum (101 through 401) with graduates eligible for short-form house team auditions. Regular improv and stand-up shows. Corporate training events and private celebrations.

Angi and Travis Noote founded Boomerang Comedy Theater in 2022 after the pandemic-era sale of the LATCo. Comedy Theater space at 455 Hearthstone Drive in Baton Rouge, where both had previously studied improv. Rather than let the venue close, they purchased the building and relaunched it as a home for stand-up, improv showcases, and musical theater productions. The theater installed professional cameras to help performers assemble submission reels for comedy festivals, giving Baton Rouge comedians a resource previously unavailable in the market.

The Nootes bring backgrounds in corporate communication and team-building to the venue, running a four-level improv curriculum alongside regular public performances and a weekly open mic. Boomerang operates as Baton Rouge's primary dedicated comedy theater, serving both aspiring professional performers and community audiences seeking accessible live comedy outside of New Orleans.
