A Sao Paulo comedy company comprising the improv trio Anderson Bizzocchi, Daniel Nascimento, and Elidio Sanna, formed in 2004. The trio created Improvavel, Brazil's most-watched improvisation format, whose YouTube channel accumulated over 800 million views and the live show reached more than 1 million theatregoers across Latin America and Europe.
History
Anderson Bizzocchi, Daniel Nascimento, and Elidio Sanna grew up together in the northern zone of Sao Paulo. Their first collaborative stage appearance was in 2001 at a school music festival; they formed Cia. Barbixas de Humor as a company in 2004. Their earliest influence shared across the trio included Monty Python, Rowan Atkinson, and Spanish physical comedy duo El Tricicle.
In 2007, the trio launched Improvavel, a theatrical game show in which a master of ceremonies presents improvisation challenges and scenes are created entirely from live audience suggestions, joined by rotating guest comedians. The live show ran continuously for more than 11 years in Sao Paulo. In 2008 Improvavel became a YouTube web series; by 2010 the channel had entered the list of the 100 most-watched web series worldwide, growing to more than 3 million subscribers with over 800 million cumulative views. Recurring guest performers included Marco Goncalves, Fabio Porchat, Marco Luque, and Rafinha Bastos.
In September 2021, the trio opened Clube Barbixas de Comedia as a permanent comedy venue at Rua Augusta 1129, Consolacao, Sao Paulo, a 280-seat space programming stand-up comedy, improv, sketches, musical comedy, drag shows, and variety acts. The venue operates as the company's first permanent physical home.
Artistic Identity
Barbixas combines scripted sketch comedy with theatrical improvisation. Improvavel, their signature format, places a master of ceremonies and performers before an audience who supply themes and suggestions; scenes are created entirely without prior preparation. The format's integration of a game show structure with live improvisation distinguishes it from traditional improv shows and contributed to its accessibility as online content.
Legacy
Improvavel's YouTube series, accumulating over 800 million views, made theatrical improvisation accessible to a mass Brazilian audience and demonstrated the format's potential as digital content. The trio's permanent Clube Barbixas de Comedia venue, opened in 2021, created dedicated comedy infrastructure in Sao Paulo and anchored the broader Brazilian comedy scene in a fixed performance home.
