Fantoche Teatro
Fantoche Teatro is Ecuador's first and longest-running theatrical improvisation company, founded in 2003 in Guayaquil, and operator of Casa Fantoche, a 25-seat micro-theatre opened in 2010.
History
Fantoche Teatro was founded in Guayaquil in 2003 by Hugo Aviles and Ruth Coello after the founders travelled to Buenos Aires and saw a performance by the Liga Profesional de Improvisacion. Inspired by what they witnessed, Aviles and Coello returned to Ecuador and organised the first-ever improvisation match in the country in August 2003. In 2010 the company opened Casa Fantoche, a dedicated 25-seat micro-theatre at Rocafuerte 264 y Loja in central Guayaquil, providing a permanent home for regular improv shows and training workshops.
Artistic Identity
Fantoche Teatro works in the competitive match tradition and operates Casa Fantoche as a dedicated micro-theatre, combining regular performance with structured training in Ecuador's largest port city.
Legacy
Fantoche Teatro introduced theatrical improvisation to Ecuador in 2003 and established the country's first dedicated improv venue through Casa Fantoche, creating the institutional foundation for Ecuadorian improv.
