International Theater Stockholm (IT'S) is an English-language improvisation theater company founded in Stockholm in March 2014 by Josh Lenn and Katarina Wahlberg to serve the city's large international community. Lenn, originally from San Francisco, had been teaching improv in English in Stockholm since 2008. The company's shows have brought together performers from more than forty countries, and its production Lost in Translation won the People's Choice Award at the Swedish Performing Arts Awards in 2017.

History

Josh Lenn moved to Sweden and began offering English-language improv instruction in 2008, building a community that eventually became the foundation for International Theater Stockholm in March 2014. He co-founded the company with Katarina Wahlberg with the explicit goal of creating a fun, warm, and welcoming theater for Stockholm's international residents. The company's show Lost in Translation won the People's Choice Award at the Scenkonstgalan (Swedish Performing Arts Awards) in 2017, marking a significant moment of mainstream recognition. International Theater Stockholm also published The Visual Guide to Improv, an illustrated handbook covering scene development, storytelling, character creation, and genre work.

Artistic Identity

International Theater Stockholm performs all work in English and draws creative energy from the cultural diversity of its participants and audiences. Shows range from character-driven narrative improv inspired by audience members' personal experiences to genre-based formats including improvised crime and musical storytelling. The company's founding vision of comedy addressing the experiences of expat life has remained a consistent thread through productions such as Immigrant Stories and Lost in Translation.
