Liga Tica de Improvisacion is a San Jose improv company founded in 2003 by Argentine improvisers, performing competitive and long-form improvisation at Teatro Giratablas and organising ENIMPRO, Costa Rica's annual national festival.
History
Liga Tica de Improvisacion was founded in 2003 by Argentine improvisers Barbara Traverso and Javier Bacchetta, who brought competitive improv traditions from Buenos Aires to the Costa Rican capital. The company established itself at Teatro Giratablas in San Jose and built a programme of competitive and long-form improv that shaped the form's early development in Costa Rica. Liga Tica also created ENIMPRO, the national improvisation festival, providing an annual platform for Costa Rican practitioners and an entry point for international companies.
Artistic Identity
Liga Tica applies Argentine competitive improv traditions to the Costa Rican context, running both competitive match formats and long-form programming while sustaining the country's national festival.
Legacy
As Costa Rica's first improvisation league and the organiser of ENIMPRO, Liga Tica de Improvisacion established the institutional infrastructure for theatrical improv in Central America.
