A Dublin alternative comedy community and theatre company, founded in November 2018 by Erin McGathy, Stephen Bradley, and Neil O'Rourke. MOB Theatre runs weekly shows at Wigwam and offers classes in live comedy and screenwriting.
History
Erin McGathy, Stephen Bradley, and Neil O'Rourke founded MOB Theatre Dublin in November 2018. The company is named after a W.B. Yeats speech delivered on the steps of the Abbey Theatre. Erin McGathy is an American improviser who relocated to Dublin in 2016; her 2018 improvised play Witches and Dogs was a critical favourite at the Dublin Fringe Festival, and she has served as a judge at the festival. Stephen Bradley trained in improv through the Drama Education Programme at Griffith College and studied long-form improv at iO West in Los Angeles.
MOB Theatre runs weekly shows downstairs at Wigwam in Dublin and offers classes in live comedy and screenwriting. The company describes itself as a creative hub for comedians to meet, collaborate, and develop projects through alternative comedy, experimental improv, and collaborative writing.
Artistic Identity
MOB Theatre occupies a distinct niche in Dublin's comedy scene, emphasising alternative comedy, experimental improv, and collaborative writing over mainstream stand-up or traditional short-form improv. The company nurtures projects rather than simply training performers.
