Kimberly Wilson and Jessica Cotton founded Shenanigans Comedy Theatre in Huntsville, Alabama in 2019, establishing a nonprofit organization dedicated to improv performance, sketch comedy, and comedy education in the North Alabama region. Huntsville, a city whose cultural identity is strongly shaped by its aerospace and defense industries, had limited infrastructure for live comedy before Shenanigans opened, and the organization positioned itself as a community-building institution as much as a performance venue. Operating under a nonprofit model allowed Wilson and Cotton to prioritize accessibility and education alongside ticketed performances.

Shenanigans offers improv performances, sketch shows, and comedy classes, serving the Huntsville metropolitan area with programming designed for participants at all experience levels. The organization operates under the brand huntsvillelaughs.com, reflecting its ambition to become the civic home for comedy in North Alabama. By launching in 2019 and sustaining operations through the subsequent years, Shenanigans has worked to establish the infrastructure -- classes, recurring shows, and community events -- that a city of Huntsville's size and growth trajectory had lacked in the comedy space.
