The Improv Pit is a Melbourne improv company offering weekly Chicago-style long-form shows and a workshop program, operating under Artistic Director Damien Vosk. The company grew out of a performing ensemble that toured festival circuits before establishing regular shows in Collingwood from 2018 and formally branding as The Improv Pit in 2020.

History

Origins: Festival Circuit Ensemble

The Improv Pit's founders, described on their own site as "a bunch of rag-tag improvisers," came together to create Improv Against Humanity (later retitled Improv Attacks Humanity), a show that toured the Australian festival circuit. Regular local shows followed in Collingwood from 2018.

The Improv Pit (2020)

The ensemble formally adopted the name The Improv Pit in 2020. A public workshop program also launched during this period. Artistic Director Damien Vosk previously taught at The Improv Conspiracy, connecting The Improv Pit to Melbourne's established Chicago-style tradition.

Venues

The company performs weekly on Thursdays in Collingwood (Easey Street area, also associated with the Grace Darling Hotel on Smith Street) and operates a 45-seat blackbox theatre at Bard's Apothecary on Crossley Street in the Melbourne CBD.

Artistic Identity
