Festival d'Impro de Québec
The Festival d'Impro de Québec (FIQ) is an annual improvisation festival held in Quebec City, Canada, presented as the largest francophone improvisation festival in the Americas. The festival presents a wide range of formats including solo performances, long-form narrative, musical improv, family-friendly shows, themed evenings, and competitive street improv across venues including Le Diamant, Méduse, Palais Montcalm, and Impérial Bell. Over 22 Quebec City improv organizations participate, with programming featuring both emerging talent from university and CEGEP leagues and established performers.
History
Founded in 2023 by Dominic Lapointe, co-founder of the Punch Club, the festival launched with a three-day debut on April 28 to 30, 2023, marking Quebec's first festival dedicated exclusively to improvisation. The second edition (2024) expanded to 10 days and sold out its 600-seat Le Diamant opening show in under 10 days; the third edition (2025) featured 15 shows and 100 performers.
Significance
As the largest francophone improvisation festival in the Americas, FIQ unites over 22 Quebec City improv organizations and connects emerging talent with established performers, contributing to the continuity of French-language improv traditions rooted in Quebec since the late 1970s.
