Gouarek
GouareK (full name: GouareK - Stages d'Improvisation Intensifs) is an intensive improv theatre workshop program held annually in Lesneven, Brittany, France. The program runs as a four-week summer event featuring workshops at three skill levels covering long-form, storytelling, character work, musical improv, and physicality, with international professional improvisers as instructors. Workshops include tuition, meals, accommodation, and shuttle transport, and the program also hosts free open-air public shows including a crowd-judged improv competition called Le Catch d'Impro.
History
GouareK was founded in 2009 by Gwenaele Le Doussal in the town of Gouarec, beginning as a single week-long course before growing into a four-week summer program. In 2021, leadership transitioned to the association GouareK - Stage Impro, which continues the program's emphasis on accessible, community-driven training.
Significance
GouareK attracts international professional improvisers as instructors, reflecting its reach beyond the local Brittany region.
