Improteca - The Festival
Improteca - The Festival is an international improv festival held in Bucharest, Romania, organized by Improteca, an independent improvisation theater. The festival takes place at Improteca's attic venue on Strada Comanita in central Bucharest and runs for one week, featuring advanced workshops, showcases, community jams, a competition for Romanian troupes, and guest shows selected through an international open call. The festival is self-funded by the community with no institutional backing.
History
The festival was founded in 2025 with an inaugural edition, followed by a second edition in 2026 themed around musicality, rhythm, and presence in improvisation. Improteca, the organizing theater, was itself founded in 2018 by Andrei Bratu.
Significance
The festival brings together international trainers and performers alongside Romanian troupes, serving as a regional platform for both local and international improv exchange in Bucharest.
