Irreverente - Lisbon International Improv Festival
Irreverente is Lisbon's international improvisation festival, produced by Embuscada, a cultural association based in Lisbon. The festival takes place over five days in the Alcantara neighborhood and features shows, workshops, lectures, debates, and jam sessions. Programming spans improvised theatre, dance, music, and hybrid performances, drawing participants from across Europe and beyond.
History
Irreverente was founded in 2022 by Portuguese improviser Andre Sobral and Brazilian improviser Luana Proenca. The 2023 edition drew performers from 19 countries. The festival received the EFFE Label (Europe for Festivals, Festivals for Europe) for 2026-2027 from the European Festivals Association.
Significance
The festival serves as a regional hub for international improvisation in Portugal, attracting performers from across Europe and beyond and earning recognition from the European Festivals Association through its EFFE Label.
