Vietnam Improv Festival
The Vietnam Improv Festival (VIF) is an annual improvisational theatre festival held in Hanoi, Vietnam, organized by The Improv Hub. The festival alternates its primary language by year, conducting programming in English during odd-numbered years and Vietnamese during even-numbered years. VIF26, themed 'CHUNG VUI, VUI CHUNG' (Share Joy, Joy Together), is the first edition conducted entirely in Vietnamese.
History
The festival was first held in May 2023 as Vietnam's first international improv festival, drawing 110+ improvisers from 8 countries. It has grown steadily, with VIF25 attracting 200+ improvisers from 15+ countries. Earlier editions were co-organized with The Rotten Grapes Improv Theatre and ATH Drama & Arts Space.
Significance
The festival has established itself as a regional hub for improvisational theatre in Southeast Asia, growing from a primarily international event to one that also serves the Vietnamese-language improv community.
