Vintage Improv Festival
The Vintage Improv Festival (VIF) is an annual improv comedy festival held in Maine, USA, focused on mature improvisers aged 50 and over, though open to all ages. It is presented by Vintage Improv Festival Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and describes itself as the only festival in the world that highlights the gifts of life experience in the performance of intergenerational improvisation. The 2026 ninth edition will take place aboard the Schooner Ladona, a historic windjammer sailing out of Rockland, Maine, departing from the festival's traditional land-based format at Ferry Beach Retreat and Conference Center in Saco, Maine.
History
VIF was founded in 2018 by Michele "Miki" Manting as part of the Boston Improv Festival, became an independent festival in 2019, and pivoted to virtual programming during 2020 and 2021. Over its first six years through 2023, the festival attracted more than 500 participants from over 11 countries across four continents.
Significance
VIF occupies a distinct niche in the improv festival landscape as the only festival explicitly centered on mature improvisers, drawing an international participant base across four continents within its first six years.
