Accepting

In improvisation, accepting is the act of receiving and affirming what a scene partner offers, typically expressed through the "yes, and" principle, in which an improviser acknowledges the offer and builds upon it rather than blocking or negating it. This generative, collaborative mode creates trust and mutual discovery, allowing scenes, conversations, and ideas to move forward. Accepting stands in direct contrast to blocking (often characterized as "yes, but" or "no"), which shuts down possibilities and stalls momentum. The concept extends beyond simply agreeing with a partner's words; it involves fully receiving the reality being established, including emotional states, environmental details, and relationship dynamics.
