Anubis Improv

Founding in New Orleans (2018)

David James Hamilton founded Anubis Improv in New Orleans, Louisiana in 2018, establishing a long-form improv comedy organization in the city. The New Orleans base gave the company roots in a city with a rich performance tradition but limited dedicated improv infrastructure.

Oxford, Mississippi Expansion (2022)

In 2022 Anubis Improv opened a location in Oxford, Mississippi, extending the organization's reach into a university town with the University of Mississippi campus as a natural audience base. The Oxford expansion reflected the organization's growth and its interest in bringing long-form improv to smaller Southern markets that lack dedicated comedy venues.

Anubis Improv brings long-form improv comedy to both New Orleans and Oxford, Mississippi, building community across two Southern markets from its 2018 New Orleans founding.

Half and Half, a hybrid format combining scripted theatre scenes with live improv responses, featuring actors from Theatre Oxford alongside Anubis graduates. The Armando (long-form monologue-based format). Wonton Destruction, the resident house troupe. Regular long-form shows at The Powerhouse in Oxford, MS. Mainstage cast includes Hannah Allen, Dylan Kerr, Connor King, Alyssa Lee, and Maggie White.

David James Hamilton, a New Orleans native, founded Anubis in 2018 after serving as co-conservatory director, tech director, and instructor at The New Movement (TNM) from 2014 to 2018, and studied the Harold at Glasgow Improv Theatre and trained at Two Friends Improv. Originally based in New Orleans, Anubis relocated to Oxford, MS in 2022. Graduates include performers who also work with Theatre Oxford and the University of Mississippi theatre program.
