Predecessor: Dallas Comedy House

Dallas Comedy House was Deep Ellum's primary improv and comedy venue for nearly a decade before permanently closing in August 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Ian and Rosie Caruth, who had performed at Dallas Comedy House before its closure, recognized the gap left in the Dallas comedy community.

Founding Dallas Comedy Club (2021)

The Caruths, together with Jamie Hogan, Sarah Tullos, and Claire Daigle, opened Dallas Comedy Club in 2021 in the same Deep Ellum space at 3036 Elm St. The new organization built on the established infrastructure and community relationships of its predecessor while establishing its own identity as a multi-format comedy venue. Dallas Comedy Club launched with programming across improv, stand-up, sketch, and storytelling five nights a week.

Dallas Comedy Club presents a multi-disciplinary comedy program spanning improv, stand-up, sketch comedy, and storytelling, building on the Deep Ellum comedy tradition established by its predecessor Dallas Comedy House. The venue functions as both a performance space and training center, offering classes alongside its nightly performance schedule in a neighborhood historically associated with Dallas's alternative arts scene.

Dallas Comedy Club presents IMPROV CLUB, a team-based improv showcase, and SKETCH CLUB, a recurring sketch comedy performance night. PRIMETIME features headline-level comedy acts. Queer Factor is an ongoing LGBTQ-centered comedy show. The Brown Out is a themed recurring performance series. This Just Happened! is a topical improv show built around current events. Roast Battle League DFW is a structured competitive roasting program. Is This a Date? is a relationship-themed comedy night, and I Told You So! is a recurring storytelling-based show.

Dallas Comedy Club opened in 2021 at 3036 Elm Street in the Deep Ellum neighborhood of Dallas, in the same physical space previously occupied by Dallas Comedy House, which had closed in August 2020 after the COVID-19 pandemic ended its operations. By reopening a dedicated multi-genre comedy venue in Deep Ellum within a year of Dallas Comedy House's closure, Dallas Comedy Club preserved the organizational infrastructure, the training curriculum, and the performance calendar that the Dallas comedy community depended on, preventing the dispersal of the local scene that typically follows a flagship venue's permanent closure. The theater's applied improv offerings for corporate clients and its professional development programming for legal and educational professionals extend its reach beyond the performance community. No specific alumni have been publicly documented with major credits originating from the club's programs to date.
