Founding (2017)

Lindsay Goldapp and Andrea K. Baum founded Stomping Ground Comedy Theater in 2017 as a nonprofit organization in the Dallas Design District, building a community-focused home for long-form improv and stand-up in the DFW metro. The organization's nonprofit structure reflects its mission of making comedy accessible to a broad audience.

Programming

Stomping Ground produces regular long-form improv shows featuring both house ensembles and visiting performers, alongside a structured class program covering improv, stand-up, and sketch. Themed variety events and special programming have become signatures of the organization's community engagement.

Stomping Ground Comedy Theater is a nonprofit Dallas Design District venue dedicated to long-form improv and comedy education, building community through accessible programming across DFW.

Stomping Ground Comedy's longest-running showcase is A Completely Improvised Musical, performed by its flagship house team on the second Saturday of each month; no two performances share a script, plot, or songs. Thunderdome is the theater's monthly short-form competition, held on the first Friday of each month, in which performers earn audience-awarded points across Whose Line Is It Anyway-style games until a single player is declared the winner. The Dallas Youth Improv Festival, hosted at Stomping Ground, brings student ensembles from across the DFW region for a day of competitive and collaborative performance. The 48 Hour Laugh-A-Thon, now in its third edition, challenges performers to sustain continuous comedy across a two-day endurance event. Broadway(ish) is an additional improvised musical format produced by the organization alongside its core house show.

Stomping Ground Comedy was incorporated in 2017 by Lindsay Goldapp and Andrea K. Baum and opened its doors in the Dallas Design District in June 2018 as the first nonprofit comedy theater in the city of Dallas. Goldapp, who had studied and performed improv in Chicago before returning to Dallas in 2012, serves as Co-Founder and Artistic Director; Baum, a licensed professional counselor with a background in therapeutic applications of performance, serves as Co-Founder and Director of the Improv for Life program. That program -- which delivers comedy-based wellness workshops for caregivers of individuals with Alzheimer's, dementia, and brain injuries -- is the only offering of its kind in the DFW region and is overseen by a credentialed therapist on staff. Since 2018, the organization has awarded more than 142 scholarships to students from underrepresented and marginalized communities, institutionalizing access as a structural priority rather than an ad hoc gesture. Stomping Ground's youth programming, summer camps, and the Dallas Youth Improv Festival have extended its reach into school-age audiences, establishing the theater as a multigenerational comedy institution in the North Texas market.
