ImproBeirut

ImproBeirut was founded in Beirut in 2008 by playwright and director Lucien Bourjeily, introducing structured improv theatre to Lebanon as a consistent performance practice. Bourjeily's background in Lebanese theatre and his engagement with international improv traditions gave ImproBeirut a distinctive profile, blending local cultural sensibilities with established improv methodologies. The company performed at Al Madina Theatre, one of Beirut's principal independent venues, and helped develop the audience and practitioner community from which subsequent Lebanese improv organisations emerged.

ImproBeirut combines Lucien Bourjeily's theatrical background with improv practice, rooting the company's work in Beirut's established independent theatre culture while introducing the spontaneous performance tradition.

ImproBeirut's founding in 2008 established improv as a recognised performance format in Lebanon and created the community foundation from which subsequent organisations including Impro Essence and Akaaba Improv developed.
