Frankfurt-based registered improv association founded in 2016 by Tram Pham, performing monthly at the Kellertheater Frankfurt and offering weekly workshops. The ensemble of nine members performs both short-form and long-form improvisation from audience suggestions.
History
Tram Pham founded Improglycerin in Frankfurt in 2016 as a registered non-profit association (IMPROGLYCERIN Improvisationstheater in Frankfurt am Main e.V.). The organisation operates with a board of three members including Elisa Vogel and Kathrin Freihube alongside Pham. A 2026 anniversary celebration at The Living Room in Frankfurt-Sachsenhausen marked ten years of operation.
The ensemble performs monthly at the Kellertheater Frankfurt (Mainstrasse 2) and offers weekly Wednesday workshops and monthly Saturday workshops. Members bring backgrounds spanning graphic design, journalism, IT, finance, and arts education, creating an unusually broad ensemble range.
Artistic Identity
Improglycerin performs both short-form and long-form improvisation, incorporating music, singing, poetry readings, and satire to inspire and frame scenes. The ensemble draws on Chicago-style improv, including hero's journey narrative structures. All scenes are created live from audience suggestions: "Sie rufen uns Ideen zu, wir machen daraus Szenen. Sofort. Ohne Drehbuch" (You call out ideas; we make scenes from them. Immediately. Without a script).
The self-description "Explosiv, intensiv, jetzt" (explosive, intense, now) captures the ensemble's approach to immediacy in performance.
