History
Founding and Background
ImproTas was established by Melissa Cuthbertson to revive and sustain Theatresports in Tasmania. Cuthbertson's background in the format spans more than 25 years: she played and hosted Theatresports at the old La Boite Theatre in Brisbane (Hale Street location), participated in workshops with Lyn Pierse, and ran state Theatresports competitions at North Sydney Girls High School before relocating to Hobart.
Programming
ImproTas presents Theatresports performances in Hobart and runs the Tasmanian Schools' Theatresports Challenge, a competitive improv program for secondary school students across the state. The company is distinct from Protea Impro, the other Hobart improv company, which focuses on long-form and narrative styles rather than Theatresports competition.
Artistic Identity
ImproTas is Tasmania's dedicated Theatresports company, run by Melissa Cuthbertson whose background in the format spans coaching, teaching, and hosting across multiple Australian cities.
