Improv Speakeasy is an English-language improv comedy ensemble based in Oslo, Norway, performing weekly at Chateau Neuf. The group serves as the house team of Impro Neuf International and is credited with establishing Oslo's first regular weekly improv comedy show in English.

History

Improv Speakeasy was established in 2015 as the founding house team of Impro Neuf International, the English-language programming arm of Impro Neuf. The ensemble comprises nine performers described as a mix of actors, architects, museum curators, neuroscientists, and other professionals, performing weekly on the Lillesalen stage at Chateau Neuf. In addition to house team performances, the group hosts rotating guest teams every Wednesday, creating a recurring showcase format that introduces Oslo audiences to the wider improv community. The group also offers corporate and event bookings, drawing on a collective teaching experience of over twenty years.

Artistic Identity

Improv Speakeasy works at the intersection of high-culture reference and broad comedy, combining theatrical scene work with genre play that shifts fluidly between dramatic and absurdist registers. The group's ensemble identity reflects the cosmopolitan character of Oslo's international community, performing entirely in English for a multilingual audience.
