Founding (2000)

KC Improv Company was founded in 2000, initially performing corporate and private shows out of a basement venue. The company built its performer base and reputation through private event work over the following decade before launching weekly public performances on January 1, 2012. The Saturday night public show format established a regular Kansas City audience for improv comedy.

Public Programming Growth (2012–Present)

Following the launch of Saturday night shows in 2012, KC Improv expanded its public schedule, adding Friday night performances in 2015 alongside an all-ages Saturday matinee. With over 25 professional performers, the company grew to four public shows per week at its Westport location. The company was voted Best Improv/Sketch group in Kansas City six times across this period.

KC Improv Company continues to operate at 4010 Pennsylvania Ave in Westport, running its regular performance schedule and corporate programming.

KC Improv Company presents general improv and sketch comedy across a four-show weekly schedule, serving Kansas City audiences with a mix of evening and matinee programming. Corporate event work remains a significant part of the company's activity alongside its public performance schedule. The ensemble of 25+ professional performers distinguishes the company as Kansas City's primary improv institution.

The company developed original formats including Improvised Shakespeare and Improvised Murder Mysteries alongside game-based and character-driven shows. Performances run four nights a week from their Westport venue at 4010 Pennsylvania Avenue. The company has also performed at venues as far as New York and Los Angeles. Corporate and private event shows form a significant part of the company's programming across the Midwest.

Since 2000, the KC Improv Company has grown from a small troupe into an organization employing over 25 professional actors who perform, teach, and work private events. Cast members have trained with nationally recognized improvisers from The Second City, UCB, and other major theaters, bringing those techniques back to Kansas City. The company established itself as the Kansas City metro area's primary destination for improv comedy, building an audience in the Westport entertainment district.
