Founding (2021)

Luke and Taylor Bruneaux founded Kismet Improv in Fall 2021 in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, establishing a long-form improv company at Hope Artiste Village, a refurbished mill building that houses artists, makers, and performers. The venue provides Kismet with a distinctive home in a creative community outside Providence's immediate downtown.

Programming

Kismet Improv presents a rotating slate of original shows anchored by its weekly Friday and Saturday performances. Friday Night House Party is a recurring audience-driven long-form show featuring the marquee cast. Kismet + Friends pairs the house ensemble with guest performers from the broader New England improv community. Improv Jones, described as the longest-running improv team in Rhode Island, appears regularly on the Kismet stage. Human Interest Stories and Yaaasss And! are recurring ensemble formats, and the annual KISMETFEST celebrates the theatre's anniversary across a full weekend of performances and guest acts.

Kismet Improv grew out of the COVID-era closure of Wage House, a Pawtucket venue where founders Luke and Taylor Bruneaux had previously performed. The couple, who met at ImprovBoston in Cambridge and married in 2018, launched Kismet in fall 2021 at Hope Artiste Village, bringing to the Greater Providence area a theatre they describe as professionally managed from day one. A defining early commitment was paying performers, a practice Luke Bruneaux articulated as central to the company's identity. Luke, a health care data scientist who had performed since 2008 beginning in Chicago, serves as Artistic Director, while Taylor, a tech marketing specialist who began performing in Boston in 2012, serves as Executive Director. The company ran 49 performances of 13 different shows in its first year alone.

Kismet operates with a full leadership team that includes a kids' show director, an operations director, and an education director, giving it a structured organizational footprint unusual for a venue of its size and age. The theatre offers free classes for BIPOC community members and scholarship access for low-income participants, positioning it as an equity-focused institution within Southern New England. Its location inside Hope Artiste Village, a creative hub in a formerly industrial Pawtucket complex, has helped anchor the theatre within a community of working artists. Improv Jones, one of Rhode Island's most established ensembles, has chosen Kismet as a performance home, lending the newer venue continuity with the state's existing improv history.
