Founded2017
LocationTunis, Tunisia

LIPA is the first professional Arab improvisation league, founded in 2017 in Tunis by Nebil Daghsen, Faten Chroudi, and Jamel Chikhaoui, performing Arabic-language improv matches at the Carthage Theatre Days.

History

LIPA was founded in 2017 in Tunis by Nebil Daghsen, Faten Chroudi, and Jamel Chikhaoui during the Carthage Theatre Days, one of the Arab world's most significant annual theatre events. The organisation established the professional Arabic-language improv league format, using two-team matches with a referee and audience scoring to create competitive improv performance in the Arabic language. As the first professional Arab improv league, LIPA positioned Tunisia as the founding country for professional Arabic-language improv.

Artistic Identity

LIPA applies the professional competitive match format to the Arabic language, using two-team competitions with referee and audience scoring to create a distinctly Arab form of theatrical improvisation.

Legacy

As the founding professional Arab improvisation league, LIPA established Arabic-language competitive improv as an organised practice and positioned Tunisia as the institutional origin of the Arab improv tradition.
