Queen City Improv was founded in 2017 in Manchester, New Hampshire, entering a state without an established resident improv company and building its audience through shows at venues including The Rex Theatre and performances at the Palace Theatre. The company's style emphasizes strong dynamic characters driving both short-form game structures and long-form scenes, reflecting a dual-format approach that serves audiences at different levels of familiarity with improvisation. The organization was named Best of 2020 by The Hippo, a Manchester alternative publication, marking an early recognition of its role in the city's entertainment landscape.

Queen City Improv operates with a stated mission of improv for the people, offering free open sessions alongside structured class opportunities to create entry points for participants at every experience level. The company has performed at community institutions including library events, extending its reach beyond comedy venue audiences to general public programming. As Manchester's primary dedicated improv company, Queen City Improv functions as both a performing ensemble and a community access point for a form that had no permanent home in New Hampshire's largest city before its founding.
