Stranger Than Fiction Improv has anchored a recurring Tuesday Night Improv series at Players' Ring Theater in Portsmouth for more than fourteen seasons, mixing short-form games with two-hour long-form narrative sets in front of summer audiences. The company produces improvised musicals with live accompaniment, bringing in musicians to play guitar and piano while the ensemble invents songs and scenes on the spot. The troupe has mounted What the Dickens, an entirely improvised take on A Christmas Carol, as an annual holiday production at Players' Ring. An Alumni Extravaganza show reunites former cast members with the current ensemble around the company's anniversary each spring. Stranger Than Fiction has also performed at the Boston Improv Festival, the Providence Improv Festival, ImprovME Festival, and the Hartford Improv Festival, bringing its Seacoast material to regional multi-company events.

Key figures in the ensemble's development have included Jacqueline Martell, who spent fifteen years as a performer and director training in physical and vocal character work and musical improvisation, and Harry Prichett, an instructor whose background includes Chicago City Limits and New York City venues. Seth Waters served as artistic director for more than two years, and Julia Doucett has facilitated the Seacoast Improv Incubator, a community development initiative housed within the organization. The company has delivered corporate workshops throughout New England, carried the troupe's profile beyond the Seacoast market, and attracted outside attention including the presence of Saturday Night Live alumnus Kevin Nealon at a 2015 performance.
