Showstopper! The Improvised Musical
Showstopper! The Improvised Musical is an improvised comedy and musical theatre show based in London, founded in 2008 by Adam Meggido and Dylan Emery with the backing of Keith Strachan. The show invites audience members to suggest a setting, title, and musical theatre composers whose styles are then pastiched in a fully improvised musical. It is performed by a core ensemble of comic actors and musicians, directed by Meggido and Emery.
History
The show debuted at the Edinburgh Festival in 2008 and subsequently held residencies at the Kings Head Theatre and The Drill Hall before touring the UK, Ireland, Singapore, Canada, India, Belgium, Italy, and Hong Kong. In 2011 it produced a series for BBC Radio 4, and in 2015 it ran for ten weeks at the Apollo Theatre on Shaftesbury Avenue in London's West End. That run earned the show the 2016 Olivier Award for Best Entertainment and Family Show; the company has since performed at the Lyric Theatre, The Other Palace Theatre, and from May 2023 at the Cambridge Theatre.
