Founding (October 27, 1985)

The first show attracted fewer than 20 audience members, and the troupe was initially allowed only the second half of the bill, with stand-up comedy occupying the first half.

Paul Merton joined in approximately November 1985. Richard Vranch joined in 1986 as musical accompaniment, Josie Lawrence joined in summer 1986 after the Edinburgh Fringe, Lee Simpson joined in 1989, and Jim Sweeney joined in 1992. Wednesday night shows became a regular fixture from October 11, 1989.
