Founding (2016)

Central Kentucky Improv was established in Lexington in 2016 as a nonprofit organization dedicated to growing the improv community in Central Kentucky. The organization operates primarily through performances, open mics, and educational workshops rather than a dedicated permanent venue.

Festival Focus

A central pillar of Central Kentucky Improv's programming is its annual improv festival, which brings together performers from across the region and beyond to celebrate and develop the art form in the Bluegrass area.

Central Kentucky Improv builds the Lexington improv community through nonprofit programming, workshops, and an annual festival drawing regional performers.

Regular performances at Al's Bar in Lexington, KY. Teams have performed at the Del Close Marathon (New York City), the Atlanta Improv Festival, and the Cincinnati Improv Festival. The Studio, CKI's dedicated performance space in Lexington for skill development and connection with professional performers.

Central Kentucky Improv has built visibility beyond the region by sending teams to major national festivals including the Del Close Marathon in New York City, the Atlanta Improv Festival, the Cincinnati Improv Festival, the Damn Good Improv Festival in Louisville, and the Asheville Improv Comedy Fest. This festival circuit participation has connected Lexington performers with the wider North American improv community and established CKI as a credible regional presence.
