Founding (1999)
Nine veteran improv performers founded Just The Funny in January 1999, presenting their first show at the Absinthe House Cinematheque on March 5, 1999. After a four-month run, the company relocated to Florida International University in August 1999, then to the Holiday Inn near the University of Miami in Coral Gables (2000-2002), then to the Dreamers Theatre in Coral Gables (November 2001 to May 2003). During the Dreamers period, the company created the South Florida Improv Jam, raising funds for the Miami Children's Hospital Foundation.
Permanent Venue
Just The Funny eventually secured its own dedicated space, the Just The Funny Theater and Training Center at 3119 Coral Way in Miami. The company developed a training center alongside its performance schedule and established the Miami Improv Festival as a regional gathering for improv companies.
