SAK Comedy Lab

Founding (1991)

SAK Comedy Lab was founded in 1991 by Don Ferguson, Julie Barr, and Rod Friedman in Orlando, Florida. The name "SAK" derives from the improvisers' surnames (S, A, K). The company established itself as the primary improv venue in Central Florida, operating in the Church Street entertainment district before moving to its current location at 29 S. Orange Ave in downtown Orlando.

Growth and Signature Programming

Over three decades, SAK developed a stable of original shows and trained generations of Central Florida performers. Its signature production, "Duel of Fools," pits two improv teams against each other in audience-scored competition and has run continuously for years. SAK also became a prominent training centre, offering classes to adult and youth performers throughout the region.

Youth and Education Programs

SAK maintains one of the more established youth improv programs in the Southeast, running teen ensembles and school outreach. The company has operated continuously since 1991, making it one of the longest-running improv venues in Florida.

SAK Comedy Lab presents short-form audience-interactive improv in the tradition established by ComedySportz and Theatresports. Its signature "Duel of Fools" format organises competition between two teams with audience scoring. SAK also offers long-form performances alongside its competitive format, and its training curriculum spans beginner through advanced levels for adult and youth students.
