History

Opening (2022)

The Bird Comedy Theater opened in 2022 in the Crossroads Arts District, occupying space in the historic Hemingway Building at 103 W. 19th Street in downtown Kansas City. Co-founder Bobby Miller Jr., a second-generation entertainer born and raised in Kansas City, launched the venue to bring a range of comedy forms including improv, sketch, and stand-up to the neighborhood.

Programming and Recognition

The Bird Comedy Players serve as the resident ensemble, and the Bird presents a broad slate of shows including its long-running Anarchy Fun Time Show and other variety formats alongside the Bird Watching Film Festival and free First Friday Comedy events. The venue has been voted Kansas City's number one comedy club every year since 2023 by The Pitch Best of KC awards and named Best Theater Company and Best Open Mic beginning in 2024.
